I’m hurting in ways I could never have imagined.
A mother never wants to hear the news I received last week about one of my children.
Maybe you are currently experiencing something extremely challenging. Maybe life is painful right now.
There’s a chemical response in our body that happens when we first experience something. Any feelings we lounge in after that is by choice.
Outside of deep emotional pain, here’s what I’m reminding myself:
- We can choose gratitude.
- We can choose courage.
- We can choose faith over fear.
For me, these finite beliefs only came clear after years of fighting myself. I wasted precious time and energy on a plethora of unhealthy thoughts and behaviors. These were decisions.
Things do not get better by themselves. We must make better choices and take smarter actions.
We don’t always get exactly what we want. Hard things happen. Life is as much about pain and suffering as it is about pleasure and joy. In between, there must be room for simple awareness. For quiet moments to restore balance, and also for gratitude. Gratitude makes life palatable and sweeter. It opens a door for hope, courage, and faith in possibility for the most positive outcomes.
Ultimately, most of us want to get better… and we do that when we lean into our greater consciousness. Self-care and emotional regulation techniques help us cope with adversity. Especially now, a daily meditative practice will enhance your life.
